How-To- Open the Wii
INSTRUCTIONS
Opening Unit:
Before disassembling your Wii unit be sure to have a clean, well-lit work area with storage containers for loose parts. You will require a 15 watt pencil tip soldering iron, a Philips and Tri Wing head screwdriver, electrical tape to secure the chip to the Wii Drive.

Step 3![]() Remove the three small Phillips screws that hold the Wii's black Game Cube controller and memory card port cover. |
Step 4![]() Once you remove the black GameCube port cover, you'll find a mix of Tri-wing and Phillips screws that need to be removed. |

With the side and face plate screws removed, you can gently detach the face plate from the Wii.

Step 12![]() Remove the screws holding down the metal shield and you will see the Wii's optical drive, wireless two wireless antenna, cooling fan, and air intake cover. |
Remove the Optical drive screws to lift the drive out.
The optical drive is connected to the main PCB by a thin ribbon cable and larger power cable. By disconnecting the power cable you can lift the drive and set the drive flat.
